Character Lineages and Nintendo games

Characters in the “Dice Pool” rules base are made by choosing a race and class and then choosing specific talents from those.  In Enchanted Kingdoms races have been replaced by “Lineages” in the core rule book. Your “Lineage” is the bloodline that you are able to use the powers from. However, this does not necessarily mean that it is the family that you are currently in. The bloodlines that you choose from are hundreds of years old and a person may manifest different abilities from their current family.  This can make for interesting interactions and motivations.  Also some Heritage talents could also be a curse that has been applied to the character. Either a monstrous beast form, or a small (mostly) harmless animal form, that the character transforms into could have been forced on your character. Or they could be magic inherited through their bloodline, it’s up to you; the player. Currently there are 14 Primary Lineages that you can choose from. There is also the “Ancient Lineage,”

A brief history/description of the Enchanted World

This probably should have been my first post but I am still new to blogging and planning in advance is not really something I have applying to my blog writing.  If you have read any of my past posts, you know that Enchanted Kingdoms is going to be a tabletop rpg. It is intended to be a light hearted rpg that blends concepts from our world’s folklore and fairytales. It will be a manual that includes the rules to play the game, as well as detailed information about the world in which the game is set, or the campaign setting. The Enchanted Kingdoms, also called the Enchanted World, is the “prime” or “mortal” realm. As I have previously mentioned there are the fae and shadow realms; which are reflections of the Enchanted World. The Enchanted World and its Reflections each have a “resonant element” or material they are connected to.  The Enchanted World’s is metal, the Duskfalls’ is crystal, and the Brightwylds’ is wood.  This is important to the history of the world as it facilitated

Hunter class

In last Monday's post I talked about the Thief and mentioned how the “backstab” ability has been moved to the Hunter class. It seems logical to me to cover the Hunter next then. So the Hunter is also found in folklore and fairytales like the Thief.  In Enchanted Kingdoms the hunter will be a character who has been trained in how to survive in the wild. For combat they have the ability to focus in bows and spears or axes and hammers. They also can take a talent that alludes to their time learning about creatures in order to hunt them. This Talent, currently called Predator, lets you roll to see how much you know about a creature when you encounter it. Each creature will have a small table that shows what information the character knows about the creature/monster and it’s abilities.  Hunters start with talents that give them bonuses to hiding and to fighting side by side with their allies. Over time they can expand their abilities to deal damage and impede the movement of their targ

D&D 4e with Enchantress sneak peek mixed in

A somewhat non Enchanted Worlds update today.  I recently discovered Matthew Colville on youtube.  He creates some great videos that detail tips for running games.  He is very eloquent and has worked in the game industry so he has the ability to address games from multiple perspectives. If you are thinking about running a game there is a plethora of invaluable tips in his videos.   I bring this up because I found him because of a video that actually puts into words the things that I loved about 4 th edition.  You can watch the whole video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoELQ7px9ws&index=31&list=PLlUk42GiU2guNzWBzxn7hs8MaV7ELLCP_ Now this is a long video, clocking in at almost an hour. I watch youtube at 2x speed so its not as long from that perspective. But again it is crammed with information.  He even touches briefly on some of the strengths of 5 th edition that I can actually respect.  I will most likely come back to this video again later but for the sa

Release Schedule and Thief Class

So there have been a lot of changes in my life, goals, and schedule since my last post.  In my first post I mentioned wanting to post daily, that has been changed to weekly. There is still the possibility of a second post in a week if I think of something I really, really want to write about immediately, but that will be more an exception as opposed to the rule. This is to hopefully avoid burnout, a problem I am well acquainted with from past endeavors. A friend suggested this course of action and I have chosen to act on that suggestion. Secondly I have started a new certification course for my work that will be taking a lot more time than I had initially thought.  The course will be a major focus of mine up until I take the exam in July.  My hopes of possibly getting a Kickstarter up in November are gone, and February is much less likely.  I am probably going to shoot for mid to late summer 2018 at this point so that I can focus on my studies.   This is a frustrating situation but

Quick update

Just a quick small update to not fail to post on only my second day. RpgaDay #9 What is a good game to play for 10 sessions?  I think any game can be a good game for a set number of sessions as long as you have a plan for them. Dungeon world and Dungeons and Delvers black book all have 10 level caps that mean you could level up each session for fun. Also the old Eden studios Buffy the Vampire Slayer has a serialized story plan built into its rules.  Plus it doesnt use levels at all, isntead players by individual upgrades with smaller chunks of exp.  This allows for a more organic growth even in a constrained number of games Also continuing on the "if its not broken should you fix it" topic I am moving into the area of classes.  Enchanted Kingdoms will have six classes in the core rule book, with other classes planned for future releases.  The six classes are: Enchantress/Enchanter Hunter/Huntress Knight Messenger Minstril Thief I have chos

1st Post, RPGaDay, and if it aint broke is it worth fixing?

So here after weeks of trying to get this blog off the ground, I have finally picked a name and started posting. This blog will contain my thoughts on tabletop rpgs, board games, and other games.  I am thinking I will include write ups of game sessions and even reviews of new products I try.   At the beginning here I am also going to be writing with questions for you the reader as I work on my RPG I working on using the Awful Good Games Dice Pool rule set. The game is currently being called "Enchanted Kingdoms" and has 6 new/reworked classes and 16 "Bloodlines" or "Heritages" which takes the place of races.  It will include a ready to play campaign setting. I am going to have a few named kingdoms and towns but want to leave it open and vague enough that players and DMs have a lot of freedom. I will continue to discuss the game here as I work towards getting it onto Kickstarter in order to drum up the funds a professional art company. Shooting for some
