Enemy information and fighting robots

One of the things that I always do when I am dming is make a small table for each monster characters encounter, or at least the ones i am planning for.  Having a quick table that could be duplicated and filled was one of the things I knew I wanted right away for Enchanted Kingdoms.  Obviously this is still in developement but here is what it looks like so far: Now as you can see its currently very generic but the point is for it to serve 3 functions. 1 is what I said before easy to use and duplicate for encounter tracking. The second is that it simplifies making new enemies for the people using the game.  It boils down into it's simplest form what makes a creature and allows a person to quickly put a monster together, on the fly or in advance. The third thing has to do with the last two columns.  As a player I have long lemented the inability to know things about monsters.  You either know about the monster out of character or you dont. I have had DM's try and make it pos

End of radio silence

I am finally back! After having my most viewed post ever I then go radio silent for 3 weeks. That was a major bummer. Things have been pretty crazy on my end. We are now in the new house, surrounded by somewhat less boxes and trying to figure out where we put a bunch of our day to day stuff hahaha. Also for the last few weeks I have been having two days of 4 hour classes after work instead of one day. That meant double the amount of material I needed to cover in my out of class time. So yeah, I was a little bit busy. Recently at the Tokyo Game Show they had a Megaman panel that was supposed to be 30 th anniversary celebration. I heard about the panel right before it happened. I held back my expectations because I have been disappointed before and that was a good thing. After still being disappointed I have been trying to figure out why I was disappointed, this is the same treatment Megaman has been getting for the last 6years. What was different this time? The difference now

Eating my words and a bunch of pictures

Super nerdy post this week, most of my time is going to packing and studying.  But some cool stuff happened that I am excited about. There is some Enchanted Kingdoms art at the end if you want to skip to that. A little over a week and Nintendo, and their friends, are making me eat my words. So in light of the recent announcement of the extension of the production of the mini SNES systems I have been proven wrong. Also they have announced Octopath traveler, a Square Enix game that I am trying to keep my excitement for under control.  At this point I am back on board wanting a Switch, and SNES mini.  Dang it Nintendo. Going to have to save up for those. Unfortunately, I dont have time to fight with blogger and get the images to line up the way i want, so i am sorrry for then all lining up in the center.  Last week Hasbro showed off the newest Optimus Prime toy. It can transform into a cartoon accurate Orion Pax:  which can combine with the trailer to form an impressive Leader

Crossroads and synthwave

Man, so missing Monday really threw off my groove. Also moving is the worst, I totally forgot how much the worst it is. More specifically packing in a cramped apartment is no fun, especially with sick children. Luckily our new place will be a house and somewhere we can plan to stay for a long time. Besides the 2 Reflections of the Enchanted lands there are 3 other magical realms. These are much smaller in size, not spanning the equivalent of the entire world. Instead, these smaller realms connect to the enchanted lands through portals. Multiple portals from different reagions of the world all converge within these realms allowing those who can find and use them the ability to travel large distances very quickly. Because of these aspects these smaller realms have been named Crossroads.  Each of the crossroads also has its own distinct name. They are in order of age; Nevara, Irundew, and Ozerro.  Each crossroad has sections that are connected to the Brightwylds and sections that are c

Knight VS Fighter a battle of talents

As things stand now, the classes in Enchanted Kingdoms do not have the same balance, as far as talent progression go, when compared to the classes in Dungeons and Delvers: Dice Pool.  As such I am planning to work with David and Melissa, the creators of that game, to have conversion tables available so that their classes can be used in EK if desired AND so that the EK classes can be used in a Dungeons and Delvers game. To illustrate this point I will compare the Knight from Enchanted Kingdoms to the Fighter from Dungeons and delvers.  They both have very similar concepts and fit the same role in each game: the armor wearing front line combatant.  In Delvers the Fighter starts with one talent and ganes a new talent at 3 rd , 7 th , and 9 th levels. At 5 th and 10 th levels they gain the ability to make an additional attack, which is essentially a very good class specific talent for those levels.  The knight appears very similar at first glance, becaused it is nearly the same. It s

Character Lineages and Nintendo games

Characters in the “Dice Pool” rules base are made by choosing a race and class and then choosing specific talents from those.  In Enchanted Kingdoms races have been replaced by “Lineages” in the core rule book. Your “Lineage” is the bloodline that you are able to use the powers from. However, this does not necessarily mean that it is the family that you are currently in. The bloodlines that you choose from are hundreds of years old and a person may manifest different abilities from their current family.  This can make for interesting interactions and motivations.  Also some Heritage talents could also be a curse that has been applied to the character. Either a monstrous beast form, or a small (mostly) harmless animal form, that the character transforms into could have been forced on your character. Or they could be magic inherited through their bloodline, it’s up to you; the player. Currently there are 14 Primary Lineages that you can choose from. There is also the “Ancient Lineage,”

A brief history/description of the Enchanted World

This probably should have been my first post but I am still new to blogging and planning in advance is not really something I have applying to my blog writing.  If you have read any of my past posts, you know that Enchanted Kingdoms is going to be a tabletop rpg. It is intended to be a light hearted rpg that blends concepts from our world’s folklore and fairytales. It will be a manual that includes the rules to play the game, as well as detailed information about the world in which the game is set, or the campaign setting. The Enchanted Kingdoms, also called the Enchanted World, is the “prime” or “mortal” realm. As I have previously mentioned there are the fae and shadow realms; which are reflections of the Enchanted World. The Enchanted World and its Reflections each have a “resonant element” or material they are connected to.  The Enchanted World’s is metal, the Duskfalls’ is crystal, and the Brightwylds’ is wood.  This is important to the history of the world as it facilitated
